Surround view systems offer drivers a 360-degree bird's-eye view of their surroundings, making parking and maneuvering in tight spaces easier than ever. But, to ensure this technology operates effectively, calibration is crucial after certain collision repairs and part replacements.
We are seeing an increasing number of vehicles equipped with Surround View systems that require calibration. These calibrations make up 12% of our current work mix over the last 3 months compared to just 6% in the same 3 month period last year.
Surround view calibration is a precise process that ensures the cameras on your vehicle are perfectly aligned, providing accurate and reliable visuals of the vehicle’s surroundings. This calibration is vital for the system to function correctly, as even the slightest misalignment can lead to inaccurate displays and potentially unsafe driving conditions.
This calibration procedure should be completed when one or more of the cameras are replaced or removed from the vehicle by itself or as part of an assembly. Calibration may also be required after an alignment or repair that includes resetting or replacing the steering angle sensor. The calibration is completed using target mats or grids, specific to the vehicle, precisely laid out on the floor around the vehicle.
Here are a few photos of Surround View calibrations that we have completed recently.
