ADAS Calibration requirements can vary significantly depending on a vehicle's make, model, year, and the specific ADAS features equipped. Generally, calibration is necessary whenever an ADAS related radar, sensor, or camera, is moved or disturbed in any way.
There are many less obvious ADAS Calibration requirements written in manufacturer's service information systems. Here are a few of the requirements, quoted directly from the respective manufacturer, listed solely because a vehicle was involved in a collision.
GM windshield camera and front radar - “After collision repair in instances of vehicle collision where damage exceeds minor outer body panel cosmetic distortion or when collision damage requires a suspension alignment be performed." & "After any airbag deployment.”
Ford front radar – “When a vehicle has been in an accident.”
Honda windshield camera and front radar – “After a collision repair requiring a structural body repair. Structural damage include any damage beyond minor cosmetic abrasions to the welded, riveted, or bonded parts of the main unibody as well as the bumper reinforcements, door intrusion beams, or bolt-on front bulkheads.” & “After a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS Airbag) deployment.”
Subaru Eyesight – “Stereo camera axis may be displaced even in a minor collision. Even if the EyeSight warning light is not illuminated, or the [Stereo Camera Temporary Stop] is not displayed on the multi information display, adjust the stereo camera.”
These are just a few of the many different ADAS calibration requirements that can be found in manufacturer's service information systems. ADAS systems are evolving at record speeds, and service information changes and updates regularly. It’s a good idea to reference service info on each and every repair!
